Progress Report 1
We had a short break in development but after that there has been lots of improvements in game. Naturally we have kept up with new Unreal Engine versions. There are numerous small improvements, new features and tweaks, but two most important things are
– fully dynamic lighting, and
– gesture based locomotion
Project started with baked lighting, since everyone kept saying that it is impossible to do VR in fully dynamic lighting with big and highly detailed open air environment. And so it seemed. But after lots of tweaking and improvement of UE we managed to get rid of baked lighting.
Our gesture based locomotion is working too, and offers walking, running, jumping, flying, powered exoskeleton movement (superjumps, superspeed), and we are constantly adding new features in it. So, there is no teleportation anymore, as we planned.
The video above shows most of the implemented features. All footage is recorded in-game.
