Unreal Engine NVIDIA Edge Award
Last Saturday we noticed that Epic Games and NVIDIA has chosen three winners in their joint NVIDIA Edge program where they award projects that are doing fantastic work in Unreal Engine with premium hardware and even pushing the limits a bit further. We were in awe when we noticed that our project was one of those winners. We, two developers from remote city of Turku in Finland had been picked up from a flock of who knows how many candidates.
This award means a lot for us. This is very inspiring and gives a tremendous boost to push our effort even further. First of all, we get access to best graphics card available, NVIDIA GTX 1080Ti. That will help our graphics and 3D work tremendously.
But most important thing is moral support. We really are only a two man game development team from nowhere. We have to do everything ourselves. Really, there is no big studio involved in Planetrism development. We have heard lots of skepticism during the development. Also, we have no funding at all. There are no big player (or even small player) investors backing us.
For local and national game news media we are nothing. Basically, we get no support from any organization. Instead of that we have determination and very strong will, without that we would not be where we are now. But even then, it is important to have recognition, and now it came from major players in game industry, which we are happy and honored for.
People often ask, how is it possible that two developers can develop a game this fast. We have very high work ethics, but that is not all. One thing that has made all this possible is Unreal Engine. We used UE before we started Planetrism, and had very positive experiences with it. It is a wonderful tool to work with, and it really speeds our development process compared to other engines (we have experience on several).
