NOTICE
We launched this simple early demo of game environment on Dec 8th, 2017. After that, our development has proceeded really fast, and the demo is badly outdated. Since it does not represent Planetrism at its current state, we decided to stop sharing it, and it is not downloadable any more. Also, the demo worked on VR only.
We leave these instructions here, if someone is still using them. Currently we have no plans to launch another, updated free demo. Next version should be the real game in some form, perhaps a real beta version or Early Access.
—- OLD INSTRUCTIONS BELOW —–
WHAT THIS DEMO IS (and what it is not)
This is a demo of Planetrism game for VR platform. It is NOT A FULL GAME and it lacks many features planned for full game release. However, this demo will give you a feeling what Planetrism looks like and how basic interactions work at this stage. In this first demo focus is on general experience, locomotion and performance. Feel free to give us feedback on those issues.
Since this is a demo, basically a pre-beta build, you should be prepared to encounter bugs, crashes and odd behavior. You use this at your own risk, we do not take any responsibility whatever happens. We have tested this on several machines of different level, ranging from almost obsolete junk machine under VR specs that had GTX 1060 added for testing all the way to powerhouses with latest high-end CPU and GTX 1080Ti, and it generally works as expected.
If you have read our devlog, you probably know that Planetrism is about colony building, exploration and several other things. Although we have already implemented many of those features, they are not completely integrated into other the game core, so in this demo you cannot build your own colony. However, you will see what your colony could look like in the future. There are some of those buildings and equipment for you to experience and try out.
OWNERSHIP AND SUPPORT
Although we release this demo as a free game, it does not mean we are giving away our copyright on Planetrism. Planetrism is not public domain or an open source project. This demo is for personal testing only, all commercial use or distribution is prohibited. You can play as much as you like.
We offer only limited support. Planetrism has a Discord server, and you can give feedback and ask questions. But do not expect immediate solution or answer. We do not always have time to answer right away. But it is possible that other users hanging around have already solved the problem and may offer help.
We may occasionally update this demo, but we give no promises.
PLATFORMS
This demo works on Windows only (64bit), and supports both HTC Vive and Oculus Rift. If you use Oculus, you will need Oculus Touch AND an extra (third) sensor for 360 degree view. You can play it with only two sensors, but you may experience occasional tracking problems.
Assuming that your PC is VR Ready, you should get good performance with GTX 1070 on default settings. Minimum we have tested is GTX1060. This may work on older cards, but we do not give any guarantees. There are lots of settings options that you can try out to get a good performance and visuals.
Minimum: OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions) Processor: CPU: Intel Core i5 or AMD equivalent Memory: 8 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 / AMD RX 480 Storage: 5 GB available space
Recommended: OS: Windows 7/8.1/10 (64-bit versions) Processor: CPU: Intel Core i7 or AMD equivalent Memory: 16 GB RAM Graphics: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1080 / AMD RX Vega 64 Storage: 5 GB available space
INSTRUCTIONS
This game supports only room scale movement, using a locomotion of our own design. Both hand controllers have a movement button. By pressing it, and pointing your hand anywhere, you move to that direction (relational to your own orientation). Basically, if you want to turn, you have to turn yourself. This generally lower the risk for motion sickness, since you are turning both in VR world and in real world. But you are still free to move forwards, backwards and sideways.
There is no running button, you control your movement speed with you controller. Farther you extend your hand during movement, faster you move. Remember, because this is an RPG, all injuries, health and energy loss affects your general movement speed, as well as climbing a hill, swimming etc.
There is no teleport movement, and we do not support game controllers.

- WristUI scaled bigger
- Movement speed is now back to normal, but understand that your speed will always decrease when you are tired/injured.
